Goma Town

The volcano Nyiragongo destroyed the town of Goma in 2002, and the aftermath of that erruption is still present today. You can see where lava swallowed entire buildings, and most of the roads are now covered in lava rock--homes and fences are built of it, I fell repeatedly on it--its everywhere in Goma.
The ruins of the catholic church in the top left photo.
The picture with Victor and Rachel on singing and playing guitar was on a mini-trip to the outskirts of Goma, where we wound up having a tail gate church service with the crowd of locals that gathered to see the muzungus.
The UN presence in Goma is unmistakable. It is actually the largest UN mission in the history of the United Nations.
